Little Mozarts Music Class

“If children hear fine music from the day of their birth and learn to play it, they develop sensitivity, discipline and endurance. They get a beautiful heart.” -Shinichi Suzuki

Early childhood music education builds the foundation for future learning by teaching children to connect with one another through music and movement, understand complex concepts related to sound and expression, and engage with others through play. Music is one of the very first languages your child can understand. At Little Mozarts, children will be given the chance to explore their creative side and plant the seed for a lifelong love of music, all while bonding with you.

Meet the Teachers

Mrs. Jocelyn began playing the cello at the age of three. Growing up in a musically inclined family, Jocelyn developed a profound appreciation for music early on, and throughout her teaching career has continued to advocate for the role of music education in fostering young minds. Jocelyn pursued her academic and musical training at Brigham Young University-Idaho, followed by California State University, Fullerton.
Jocelyn has taught students of varying ages and skill levels in both group and private settings for the last sixteen years. Her expertise includes professional training in the Suzuki method, covering Units 1-4 and Teaching Strategies. Jocelyn’s teaching philosophy is rooted in the Suzuki method, which emphasizes the belief that every child can learn and flourish musically with the support of caring parents and educators.

At the age of eight years old, DaNece Lyman’s desire to play the violin was born as a result of music pervading every aspect of life in a family of classical musicians and teachers. After an upbringing in the Suzuki method, she received her bachelor’s degree in music performance from Brigham Young University, followed by a master’s degree from Boise State University. While there, she performed as a member of the Boise State Graduate String Quartet which competed in the national MTNA chamber music competition in Orlando, FL and placed first in the Boise Chamber Music Competition in 2017. Ms. Lyman completed her Artist Diploma in 2024 at the University of Redlands. While there she served as concertmaster under conductor Co Nguyen, won a place in the prestigious President’s Honors Recital, and received the Director’s Award for outstanding leadership and service to the Conservatory of Music.

Ms. Lyman has performed with many professional groups including the Boise Philharmonic, Fayetteville Symphony Orchestra, Redlands Symphony Orchestra, Ballet West Orchestra, and The Orchestra at Temple Square under the direction of Mack Wilberg. She has enjoyed playing for a variety of performances with world class artists including Lynn Harrell, Neil Mcdonough, and Amy Grant. She has had the honor of performing as associate concertmaster alongside Herbert Greenberg in Verdi’s Defiant Requiem with the Inland Master Chorale and Orchestra. She has performed as concertmaster with the same group in their production of The Hunchback of Notre Dame, as well as on tour to Spain performing Mozart’s Requiem in 2024. Her international touring also includes the privilege of representing the International Music Festival of the Adriatic in chamber music performances throughout Italy and Slovenia in 2015 and 2022.

Ms. Lyman has maintained a private Suzuki violin studio since 2008, for which she has received teacher training through violin book 7. Most recently she has also completed training for Suzuki Early Childhood Education (SECE) Stage 1. Her love of teaching extends to all ages with structured curriculum beginning from infancy through adulthood. She has also enjoyed coaching young chamber music groups as a faculty member with the North Carolina Chamber Music Institute. As both an avid performer and teacher, Ms. Lyman is passionate about the philosophy of continual learning with a deep appreciation for the mentorship of her past teachers and trainers. She performs on a violin crafted in 2022 by Huajie Hu based in Hamburg, Germany.
