About Jocelyn

Jocelyn Francis has been deeply immersed in the world of music since she began playing the cello at the age of three. Growing up in a musically inclined family, Jocelyn developed a profound appreciation for music early on, a passion that has driven her throughout her life. She is a strong advocate for the role of music education in fostering young minds, drawing from her own experiences to champion its benefits.

Jocelyn pursued her academic and musical training at Brigham Young University-Idaho, where she earned a Bachelor of Music with an emphasis in cello performance. She further honed her craft by obtaining a Master of Music degree from California State University, Fullerton. Throughout her studies, Jocelyn balanced her time between rigorous performance schedules and dedicated teaching roles within her community.

Beginning her teaching career at sixteen, Jocelyn has since taught students of varying ages and skill levels in both group and private settings. Her expertise includes professional training in the Suzuki method, covering Units 1-4 and Teaching Strategies. Jocelyn’s teaching philosophy is rooted in the Suzuki method, which emphasizes the belief that every child can learn and flourish musically with the support of caring parents and educators.

As a performer, Jocelyn has collaborated with several groups, including the Idaho Falls Symphony, Whittier Regional Symphony, and Southland Symphony Orchestra. Her performance repertoire spans orchestral, chamber, solo, and studio work, and she enjoys exploring diverse musical styles from classical and popular music to fiddle. Her performances have taken her across North Carolina, Idaho/Wyoming, and Southern California.

Currently residing in Fontana, California, Jocelyn balances her professional life with family life. She lives with her husband and their six children, enjoying activities such as attending her children’s baseball games, dance classes, and music recitals. In her leisure time, Jocelyn also loves spending time outdoors, reading, and cherishing moments with her family.
