Leo the Singing Cello

Let me introduce you to my good friend, Leo. He’s two years old, 4 feet tall, and light brown in color. He has the most beautiful singing voice you can imagine.

The cello has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. One of my earliest memories of practicing the cello was attempting to play a B on the A-string by pushing harder with my bow, and wondering why it wasn’t working (hint: I wasn’t using my left hand!). Over the years, the cello became my voice for expressing feelings that had no words. My passion for playing grew as I developed my knowledge and skills in college, and taught young students of my own.

I found Leo at Ferguson’s Violin Shop in Rexburg, Idaho in January of 2016. The cello was made by Calin Wultur in Romania. This was an important step for me, because it was the first cello I could truly call my own. All my previous cellos had been borrowed or given to me by my mom. In the first week of playing Leo, I established a special connection with his unique sound, which allowed me to express myself even better than I had been able to before. Since that time, that connection has only grown stronger. I can always count on Leo to make me feel better when I am down, and to ease the stresses of everyday life.

Music is a universal language, not one that can always be understood by the mind, but one that is perfectly understood by the heart. I believe in the power of music to heal the heart, uplift the spirit, and connect us all, no matter what our background or beliefs may be.

We all need a way to express our innermost feelings and desires; for some, it is the written word, for others it is painting, dancing, acting, or any number of other forms of creativity. For me, it is my friend, Leo the Singing Cello.
